How Root Canal Treatment Works

Exam and Diagnosis
Your visit begins with a gentle exam and digital imaging so we can see exactly what's happening inside and around the tooth. We use 3D scans to pinpoint the infection and confirm that treatment is the right choice. You'll have time to ask questions and understand the plan before anything begins, so you feel informed and at ease.
Gentle Numbing and Comfort
Before treatment starts, we make sure the area is fully numb so you stay comfortable throughout. Most patients are surprised that the sensation is closer to a routine filling than anything alarming. We check in with you along the way and adjust as needed, keeping your comfort the priority from start to finish.
Cleaning the Tooth
Once you're comfortable, we carefully remove the infected tissue from inside the tooth and clean the inner spaces thoroughly. This is the step that ends the pain, since the source of the infection is what's being cleared away. You'll simply relax while we work, feeling pressure at most rather than discomfort.
Sealing and Restoring
After the tooth is clean, we seal it to protect it from future infection and restore its strength. In many cases we finish with a custom crown, which we can create in-house using our CEREC PrimeMill technology. You leave with a tooth that looks natural, functions normally, and is built to last.

You may notice mild tenderness around the tooth, especially when biting, which is a normal part of healing. Stick to softer foods, avoid chewing directly on that side, and take any recommended over-the-counter pain relief. Most patients find this discomfort is mild and fades quickly over the first day or two.
First Week
Any lingering sensitivity typically continues to ease throughout the week as the area settles. You can return to your normal routine and most of your usual foods within a day or so. By the end of the week, most patients feel back to normal and comfortable using the tooth again.
