    Do These Sound Like You?

When you smile, more gum shows than tooth, or your gum line looks uneven from one tooth to the next. These small details can make you hold back your smile without even realizing it. Many patients tell us the same thing before finding a solution.
  • My smile shows too much gum
  • My gum line looks uneven
  • My teeth look short or small
  • I hide my smile in photos
  • I feel self-conscious grinning
  • A tooth needs more room for repair
  • Recognizing what bothers you is the first step. A more balanced smile may be closer than you think.

    The Longer You Wait

  • Confidence stays on hold

Every held-back smile is a moment you don't get back.

  • Photos keep piling up

Years of pictures where you smile with your lips closed.

  • Small fixes get delayed

A tooth needing repair waits longer for the room it needs.

  • Social moments feel smaller

You skip the full, open smiles that connect people.

  • The habit sticks

Hiding your smile becomes automatic over time.

  • Your goals keep slipping

The smile you want stays a "someday" instead of a plan.

  • Starting now means enjoying your fuller smile that much sooner.

    What Is Crown Lengthening?

Crown lengthening is a treatment that reshapes the gum tissue (and sometimes a small amount of bone) around your teeth to reveal more of your natural tooth surface. When too much gum covers your teeth, they can look short or uneven, and your smile can appear “gummy.” By gently adjusting the gum line, this treatment brings your teeth and gums into better proportion for a more balanced look.

At Liberty Dentistry, we plan every case using 3D imaging and intraoral scanners that create detailed models of your teeth and gums. This lets us map out exactly how much to reshape before we begin, so your results look natural and suit your face. Patients considering crown lengthening in Liberty trust us to combine careful planning with a comfortable, personalized approach.

  • Reshapes gum tissue to reveal more tooth
  • Often completed in a single visit
  • Planned with 3D imaging and digital scans
  • Transformations That Last

Watch real patients share how their dental journey restored not just their smiles, but their quality of life. These personal stories capture the relief and joy that come with comprehensive, caring treatment.

Is Crown Lengthening Right for You?

Wondering whether crown lengthening is a good fit? A wide range of patients qualify, from those who want a cosmetic change to those who need more tooth exposed for a filling or crown. You may be a better candidate than you expect, even if you’ve been told your smile was tricky before.
  • Feel that too much gum shows when you smile
  • Have teeth that look short or out of proportion
  • Want a more even, balanced gum line
  • Have a tooth that needs more surface for repair
  • Are ready to smile without holding back
  • Not Sure If You Qualify?

Most people have questions about whether crown lengthening suits their smile, and that’s completely normal. A consultation gives you a clear, personalized answer along with a recommendation built around your goals and your dental health.

What to Expect With Crown Lengthening

Our patients often tell us the treatment felt far simpler than they imagined, thanks to a comfort-focused approach at every step. We design each visit around keeping you relaxed and informed from start to finish.
    1

    Consultation and Planning

We start by talking through what you'd like to change about your smile and examining your teeth and gums. Using 3D imaging and intraoral scanners, we create a detailed model that shows exactly how reshaping your gum line will look. You'll see the plan before anything begins, so you feel confident and know what to expect from your results.

    2

    Comfortable Preparation

On treatment day, we make sure the area is fully numb before we begin, so you stay comfortable throughout. We take time to answer any last questions and make sure you feel at ease. Many patients are surprised by how calm and unhurried this part feels, which sets the tone for a smooth visit.

    3

    Gentle Reshaping

Using precise techniques, we carefully reshape the gum tissue (and a small amount of bone if needed) to reveal more of your natural tooth. Dental lasers may be used to make this step gentle and controlled. You'll feel pressure rather than pain, and the process is typically quicker than most people expect.

    4

    Your New Smile Takes Shape

Once reshaping is complete, we review your aftercare and what to expect as your gums heal. You'll leave with a clear picture of your new gum line and simple guidance for a smooth recovery. Over the following weeks, your smile settles into its more balanced, natural-looking form.

    Healing After Crown Lengthening

Most patients are surprised by how manageable recovery feels after crown lengthening. Some mild tenderness is normal as your gums heal, and our team is here to support you the whole way.

    First 24-48 Hours

Expect some mild swelling or tenderness around the treated area, which is completely normal. Stick to soft foods, rest, and use any recommended over-the-counter pain relief to stay comfortable. Most patients find this stage far easier than expected and return to their usual routine quickly.

    First Week

Your gums will continue to settle, and any tenderness typically fades within a few days. Gentle brushing around the area and avoiding hard or crunchy foods helps healing stay on track. By the end of the week, most patients feel back to normal and notice their new gum line taking shape.

Every smile heals a little differently, so we’ll give you a personalized aftercare plan with clear, simple instructions. You’ll also have direct access to our team, so any question you have gets answered quickly.

    Crown Lengthening FAQs

Choosing any dental treatment comes with questions, and we want you to feel fully informed before you decide. Below are answers to what patients ask us most about crown lengthening. If something isn’t covered here, we’re always happy to talk it through with you.

    Is crown lengthening painful?

Comfort is our priority throughout. The area is fully numbed before treatment, so you’ll feel pressure rather than pain during the process. Afterward, most patients describe only mild tenderness that fades within a few days and responds well to over-the-counter pain relief.
Most crown lengthening cases are completed in a single visit. The exact time depends on how many teeth are involved and whether a small amount of bone needs reshaping. We’ll give you a clear time estimate during your consultation so you can plan your day with ease.
Yes. We plan every case using 3D imaging and digital scans so your new gum line suits your teeth and your face. The goal is balance and proportion, giving you a smile that looks like a naturally healthier version of your own.
Not at all. While many patients choose it to improve a gummy smile, it’s also used for practical reasons. When a tooth needs a filling or crown but not enough surface is exposed, reshaping the gum line creates the room needed for a lasting repair.
Crown lengthening offers lasting results from a single treatment. Once your gums heal into their new shape, the change stays put. Good daily brushing and flossing, along with regular checkups, help keep your gums healthy and your results looking their best for years.
Many people qualify, whether the goal is cosmetic or functional. Good candidates often have excess gum tissue, short-looking teeth, or a tooth needing more surface for repair. A consultation is the best way to confirm whether this treatment fits your smile and your goals.
Recovery is typically straightforward. Expect mild tenderness for a few days, manageable with soft foods and over-the-counter pain relief. Most patients return to their normal routine quickly and are pleasantly surprised by how smooth the healing process feels overall.
The treatment focuses only on the specific teeth being reshaped. Your surrounding teeth stay untouched. During planning, we map the whole area carefully so your reshaped gum line blends smoothly with the rest of your smile for an even, natural look.
Yes, this is one of its most popular uses. By reshaping gum tissue that covers too much of your teeth, we reveal more of your natural tooth surface. The result is a more balanced smile where your teeth, not your gums, take center stage.
It begins with a conversation. During your consultation, we’ll examine your teeth and gums, listen to what you’d like to change, and show you what’s possible using digital imaging. From there, we’ll build a plan around your goals with no pressure to decide.
